Big changes were already under way at Western the year Title IX was enacted.

Cranes hovered over construction sites at both ends of campus. To the south, the Environmental Studies Building was going up midway between the Fine Arts Building and the Fairhaven Complex. And on the north side the Performing Arts Center was getting a major expansion and makeover.

In the decades to come, more buildings would fill in the space between the Environmental Studies and the Fine Arts buildings. Next to be built were Parks and Arntzen halls, and later the Ross Engineering Technology Building. Biology and the Morse Chemistry Building finished out the quad on the west side.
