In the 1960s, if you wanted to know what the men of Western were thinking about, you’d do well to ask a barber in the Viking Union.

“We probably give haircuts to the majority of the male students at Western,” barber Bob Unruh told The Collegian student newspaper in 1966.

“All the news comes through here,” Unruh told student reporter Vernon Giesbrecht, ‘67, B.A., English. “Many students getting haircuts here say they will be drafted in June.”
